La Esperanza is a municipality and capital city of Intibucá Department, Honduras. Situated in the high forests of western Honduras, La Esperanza has the coolest climate of all Honduras' cities. La Esperanza and Intibuca are neighboring cities with intertwining boundaries. The town is a central trading place for the Lenca communities who live in the surrounding mountains. Each year, the people of La Esperanza and Intibuca have a potato festival and crown a "Potato Queen." A paved highway connects La Esperanza with the San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa highway near the town of Siguatepeque. There are frequent buses along this route. An unpaved, seldom traveled highway connects La Esperanza with San Juan and on to the colonial town of Gracias, Honduras. Wikipedia:La Esperanza
