Governor Perdue Activates Emergency Bilingual Hotline
RALEIGH – Gov. Bev Perdue today activated the state's toll-free emergency information bilingual hotline to provide callers with details about Hurricane Irene as it begins to move into the state.
The hotline will provide updated weather information, highway closings, shelter information, feeding sites and will also serve as a referral line for people in need of help following the event.
English and Spanish speaking people should call 1-888-835-9966. Deaf and hard of hearing people may call 1-877-877-1765 (TTY) or 711 (Relay N.C.)
People are urged to stay tuned to local weather forecasts for the latest information.
For information on road conditions at any time, call 511, visit www.ncdot.gov/travel or follow NCDOT on Twitter at www.ncdot.gov/travel/twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website. To access it, type “m.ncdot.gov” into the browser of your smartphone. NCDOT Mobile is compatible with the iPhone, Android and some newer Blackberry phones.
