ANSONIA An emergency shelter is open at Ansonia High School located at 20 Pulaski Highway. The shelter is pet friendly and has generator power available.

BERLIN: An emergency shelter is open at McGee Middle School located at 899 Norton Road.

BETHEL: Emergency Shelters will only be opened when necessary. A reverse 911 call will notify you of their location and times.

BLOOMFIELD An emergency shelter is open at Carmen Arace Middle School at 390 Park Ave. The shelter is handicap accessible, pet friendly and has a generator available.

BRANFORD: Emergency shelter for people only is located at the Branford High School, 185 East Main Street. Emergency shelter for pets and their owners is located at the Murphy Elementary School, 14 Brushy Plain Road. House pets must have cages. leash, and all other supplies including food. BRIDGEPORT: The City will open Bassick High School, 1181 Fairfield Avenue, and Harding High School, 1734 Central Avenue, as shelters beginning at 3pm on Saturday. Central High School, 1 Lincoln Blvd., will open at 7:30pm on Saturday, (203) 576-7377. BRIDGEWATER: In event of long term power outages, the Senior Center located at 132 Hut Hill Road will be open as an emergency shelter. Contact Justin Planz, Emergency Management Director if you need to seek emergency shelter at 203-648-6691. The Senior Center is equipped with a generator and will have power as well as phone service (as long as phone service is available). You can call ahead to see if the Center is open by dialing 860-355-3090.

BRISTOL: The city’s emergency operation center will be staffed early Sunday morning with members of the police, fire and public works departments. Residents should remain in their homes, avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from fallen trees and power lines.

BROOKFIELD An emergency shelter has been opened at Brookfield High School at 45 Longmeadow Hill Road.

CLINTON: If a shelter is opening all residents will receive a reverse 911 call with recorded emergency information.

COLCHESTER: The Colchester emergency shelter is now open and we ask any resident who wants to stay at the shelter to be here by 6PM. The shelter is at Bacon Academy at 611 Norwich Avenue. All residents are welcome to come to the shelter if you believe it is necessary for your safety and we will transport people as needed. If you are in a situation where loss of electricity could endanger your health or you live in a manufactured "HUD" home that can't withstand the forecasted winds, you should seriously consider taking refuge in the shelter. Pets can be sheltered at our animal control facility. Please call our hotline at 860-531-8855 or (860) 301-0253if you need to shelter a pet. If possible, please provide a pet carrier. All evacuations should be complete on Saturday as tropical force winds are expected to hit before dawn on Sunday.

DANBURY: Emergency shelter located at the War Memorial, One Memorial Drive is opening on Saturday at 6pm.

DARIEN: Shelter at Darien High School, 80 High School Lane opening at 5pm on Saturday. Residents in historical flood prone areas and coastal areas are urged to evacuate Saturday by 12noon.

DERBY: Emergency shelter located at Derby Middle School, 10 Nutmeg Avenue opening Saturday at 6pm or 8pm.

DURHAM: Town of Durham STORM LINE - Activated - 860 343-6735 Severe Weather from Hurricane Irene is expected across the state later in the week. This also may result significant rainfall and loss of power. If sustained power outages occur, the town is prepared to open Emergency Shelters as necessary. Since most residents will choose to "shelter in place" as long as they can, the Emergency Shelter will be opened as needed. We have activated our Non-Emergency Storm Line. Please call (860) 343-6735 to request any storm related help and support. Leave a message that will be promptly transferred to the official on duty.

EAST HAMPTON: The East Hampton High School will be open as a shelter beginning Saturday, August 27th at 8:00 pm

EAST HARTFORD: Opened at 5pm on Saturday - East Hartford High School, 869 Forbes Street, East Hartford will use the CT Alert notification system. Sign up at CTAlert.gov.

EAST HAVEN: East Haven High School, 35 Wheelbarrow Lane, open 6pm on Saturday for residents of East Haven only; Will have water and snacks; will have a generator; residents should bring a pillow, blankets, any medications and any other items for comfort; Pets are welcome but must be crated. You must supply food and care. Pets will be housed in a separate on site facility.

EAST LYME: Regional Evacuation Shelter is open at East Lyme Middle School, 31 Society Road for residents of East Lyme, Old Lyme, Lyme and Waterford., (860) 949-4200

ESSEX: Listen to WLIS 1420 AM or WTIC 1080 AM

FAIRFIELD: Evacuees may report to the Roger Ludlow High School, 785 Unquowa Road starting Saturday August 27th at 4pm, where a shelter has been established. Residents are advised to bring with them clothes, medicines and any paperwork or identification they deem necessary to protect. The shelter will staff and is prepared to accept a separate area for pets.

GREENWICH: Shelters are located at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center, 499 Pemberwick Road and Eastern Middle School, 51 Hendrie Avenue at 10am and 12noon respectively. The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center is ADA accessible. Residents with special needs should call the Transportation Association of Greenwich (TAG) at 203-637-4345 for pick up. Shelters are not pet-friendly, through residents may drop off their pet at the North Street Animal Shelter located at 393 North Street.

GROTON: Groton will open a Regional Emergency Shelter at Fitch Senior High School, (860) 367-3822 on Groton Long Point Rd at noon Saturday. Red Cross has been requested to operate shelter with assistance of local volunteers/CERT members. Town of Ledyard will assist with Shelter Operations and will refer Ledyard residents to Groton shelter as needed.

GUILFORD: Community Center, 32 Church Street open Saturday at 12noon

HAMDEN: Emergency shelter located at Hamden High School, 2040 Dixwell Avenue opeing 7pm on Saturday. Residents should bring a change of clothes, basic toiletries, any necessary medications and nonperishable food items. Cots, blankets and pillows will be provided. Cats and dogs can be accommodated but residents are strongly encouraged to bring a cage/carrier and must provide their own pet food and any medications. The shelter will be accessed from the northern side of the building, closest to the Hamden Plaza, through either set of doors and residents will be asked to register upon entry.

HARTFORD: Pope Park Recreation Center, 144 Wilson Street and the Parker Memorial Community Center (Kelvin D. Anderson gym), 2621 Main Street, (860) 722-6525 open at 8am on Saturday. Also working with emergency shelters like Immaculate Conception, Salvation Army Marshall House and others.

HARWINTON:

KILLINGWORTH: Emergency shelter located at Killingworth Elementary School, 340 Route 81 opening at 8pm on Saturday.

LEDYARD: See information under Groton

LISBON: Shelter is located at Lisbon Center School, 11 Newent Rd. Shelter is pet-friendly and has a generator.

LYME: See East Lyme

MADISON: Madison has opened a shelter at the Town Campus Gym; 4 Campus Dr. off Duck Hole Rd.

MANCHESTER: A shelter is open at the Senior Center, 549 East Middle Tpke, at 6pm on Sat. August 27 for persons needing shelter, 647-3211. Those residents wishing to use the shelter are advised to bring only essential items to the shelter including food for special dietary needs, snacks, bedding, clothing, medications, toiletries, flashlights and batteries, books, magazines, games and cards. Weather related updates will be broadcast on AM 1630 radio.

MERIDEN: Emergency shelter at Washington Middle School, 1225 North Broad Street opening on Saturday at 6pm. Only those residents who have been ordered to evacuate and do not have alternate shelter arrangements (friend/family) should report to Washington Middle School. If you are not in a designated flood zone and have not been ordered to evacuate by the City of Meriden emergency personnel, you should shelter in place at your residency as long as it remains safe to do so. Residents should bring personal items such as blankets, pillows, personal hygiene items, medications, snacks and miscellaneous items such as books, magazines, or a board game.

MIDDLETOWN: The Mayor said the city will be opening an emergency shelter at Middletown High School on LaRosa Lane at 5pm.

MILFORD: Shelter at Jonathan Law High School, 20 Lansdale Avenue, will open on Saturday at 6pm. Sheltering for pets will be available at the same facility. Residents with true emergencies should call 9-1-1. Residents with non-emergencies can call (203) 874-6782.

MONTVILLE: Montville Emergency Shelter at Montville High School and Montville Emergency Operations center will be open at 6:00pm on Saturday.

NEW BRITAIN: New Britain has several shelters and is prepared to open them depending upon the level of damage to property or risk to persons that may or will arise from the pending storm. The first two shelters to be opened will be the Senior Center at 55 Pearl St, and then the Police Athletic League (PAL) building at 544 Osgood Ave. Additional shelters associated with the city’s Housing Authority will be opened at the Mount Pleasant and Knapp Village community rooms as necessary. Public parking areas and public garages will be open to the public without charge, effective 4 p.m. on Saturday.

NEW CANAAN An emergency shelter is open at the Lapham Community Center located at 677 South Avenue.

NEW HARTFORD: The decision to activate an Emergency Shelter in New Hartford will be made by the Emergency Managment Director following consultation with Emergency Service Personnel and the First Selectman. An emergency shelter will be opened if conditions warrant the use of one. Conditions that would require activation include widespread evacuation of residents and widespread SUSTAINED power outages. Residents who feel threatened should make arrangements for their own safety and seek shelter with friends, relatives, etc.

NEW HAVEN: Mayor John DeStefano has ordered the city to open two evacuation shelters Saturday. Benjamin Jepson School at 15 Lexington Avenue will open at 12 noon. The second shelter will open at the James Hillhouse High School Field House at 480 Sherman Parkway at 6 pm. Residents should call 203-946-8221 with any questions. Residents should call 911 for all emergencies.

NEW LONDON: Senior Center, 120 Broad Street will open on Saturday at 6pm

NEW MILFORD: Emergency Shelters will only be opened if necessary. If you are in need of emergency shelter, please contact the Emergency Operations Center at 860-354-4023. In an Emergency, call 911.

NEWINGTON: Emergency shelter opening at Newington High School, 805 Willard Avenue on Saturday at 7pm.

NEWTOWN: Emergency shelter located at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road opening Saturday at 5pm. If you need assistance to get to the shelter contact the Dispatch Center at 203-270-4200.

NORTH BRANFORD: Emergency shelter opening up at the North Branford Intermediate School, 654 Foxon Road-Route 80 on Saturday at 6pm. Residents are advised to bring the following items: any and all medications needed, personal care items, bedding materials and important paperwork such as insurance, medical and other contact information. Those seeking shelter with non-service pets are directed too the Branford Town Shelter located at the Murphy Elementary School, 14 Brushy Plain Road where accomodations are available for pets and their owners. Pet owners may call the shelter at 203-315-4125 with questions.

NORTH HAVEN: For residents who wish to evacuate their homes, the Town is opening up North Haven High School, 221 Elm Street on Saturday at 6pm throughout the duration of the storm and residents should call 203-239-5321 ext. 725 should they need transportation. The Town will be offering busing service and will pick up those residents who require transportation. Residents who use the shelter should remember to bring their medications and be mindful of any special dietary requirements. There will be snacks, juice and water available. There will be no resources for cooking available at the High School. The shelter will have approximately 60 cots available. Residents should bring pillows, blankets and sleeping bags. Pets are welcome and should be crated and residents should also bring their food and leash.

NORTH STONINGTON: The North Stonington Shelter located at the North Stonington Elementary School, 311 Norwich Westerly Road (Route 2) will open at 1pm on Saturday, (860) 639-5654.

NORWALK: Saturday at 3pm, the shelter at Brien McMahon High on 300 Highland Ave will be open for residents and pets. Please bring a bag with supplies such as medications, sleeping bags. Pets must be in a carrier. Bring pet supplies and dogs must have rabies documentation. Norwalk Transit will provide rides to residents at no charge to the shelter after 3pm. Residents should first seek shelter with family or friends or at hotels. If you plan on evacuating to the shelter, plan on arriving by 10pm

NORWICH: Emergency shelter located at John Moriarty School, 20 Lawlor Lane opening Saturday at 3pm, (860) 334-6383.

OLD LYME: See East Lyme

OLD SAYBROOK: Old Saybrook High School, 1111 Boston Post Road will open at 10am on Saturday. Bring a three day supply of clothes, medicine, and personal hygiene products as well as a pillow and blanket. No pets are allowed at the shelter. Pets should be left on the second floor of your home with food and water.

ORANGE: High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road opens at 5 pm on Saturday

PLYMOUTH: Emergency shelter located at Eli Terry Middle School, 21 North Main Street open at Saturday at 6pm.

RIDGEFIELD: Emergency shelter for people is located at Scott's Ridge Middle School, 750 North Salem Rd. Residents need to bring their own linens, toiletries and any special items for your family. The shelter for pets is located at Ridgefield High School, 700 North Salem Rd, Ridgefield, CT. Owners must have proof of vaccinations or current vaccination tag. If records or tags are not available, pets will be held in isolation.

ROCKY HILL An emergency shelter is open at the Rocky Hill Town Hall located at 761 Old Main Street.

STAMFORD: Stamford High School has been designated as a shelter and will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday, August 27th. If additional shelters are needed, they will be opened and announced accordingly. If you are planning on going to the shelter, please be sure to bring your medications/medical supplies, toiletries and bed linens with you.

STONINGTON: Stonington High School, (860) 608-0163. Pets will be sheltered at the High School but you must bring a crate and food for your pet and you must stay with your pet at all times. Number is for tree removal and public works issues, 860-535-5055

STRATFORD: Bunnell High School on One Bulldog Boulevard will open for residents of Stratford beginning at 6pm on Saturday.

SUFFIELD: The Town of Suffield opened the emergency shelter on Saturday at 10am, at the High School on Sheldon St., for anyone who wants to use the facility. The shelter will remain open during and after the storm for as long as needed. Cots, blankets and pillows will be provided. We will have limited provisions available. The shelter will have space available for pets. Pet owners will need to provide a crate and a rabies certificate.

THOMPSON: Emergency shelter is located at Quinebaug Fir House, 720 Quinebaug Rd.

TORRINGTON: Torrington is opening the Sullivan Senior Center, located on East Albert Street is open as a shelter

TRUMBULL: Madison Middle School, 4630 Madison Ave., will be open as a last-resort-only shelter. Residents are urged to stay at home, with a neighbor, or a friend or family member out of town. They are also advised to seek out commercial centers, such as the Trumbull Marriott Merritt Parkway at 180 Hawley Lane in Trumbull.

VERNON: Emergency shelter will be located in the auditorium at Rockville High School, 70 Loveland Hill Road, and will be opened Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.

VOLUNTOWN: Emergency shelter is located at Voluntown Baptist Church, 52 Main St.

WALLINGFORD: The shelter for Hurricane Irene, if and when declared will open at Mark T. Sheehan High School, 142 Hope Hill Road

WATERBURY: Emergency shelter is open at Waterbury Arts Magnet School, 16 South Elm Street

WATERFORD: See East Lyme

WESTBROOK: The shelter at Daisy Ingraham School will open at 8:00 PM Saturday, August 27, through Sunday, August 28 for households that do not have alternate evacuation locations. Medical needs cannot be met at Daisy Ingraham School. Individuals should bring medication, linens, and a small bag of toiletries with them. Emergency services will not be able to respond once sustained winds from the storm reachs 50 miles per hour. Another shelter is located at Westbrook High School, 156 McVeagh Rd. This shelter accepts pets, is wheelchair assessible and has a generator.

WEST HARTFORD: Emergency shelter is located at The Elmwood Community Center.

WESTPORT: Long Lots Elementary School, 13 Hyde Lane, opening at 4pm on Saturday.

WETHERSFIELD: A shelter is open at the Pitkin Community Center. The shelter will be for those with special needs due to storm impacts on their primary residences. Check the Town Website, the Town Community Scroller on Cox Channel 117-173 or ATT Uverse Channel 99 for more information. Once activated, the Emergency Operations Center phone number will be 860-563-6658. Otherwise people can contact the Wethersfield Police non-emergency line at 860-721-2900. In the event of an emergency people should call 911.

WILTON: Shelter open at Miller School, 271 Wolfpit Road at 6pm on Saturday. Cots and blankets are available, other personal comfort items should be brought to shelter.
